I picked up this toy for less than half the price two years ago. She never really did "play" with it. The toy is definitely durable, considering there are days you will wish it was broken. No idea. My "high" rating is for the durability and the balls. Don't pay more that $30 for it. Why now is it so expensive. Maybe rolled the ball a couple of times down the chute, but even that was a stretch since the balls have to be punched through the hole at the top and sometimes that can be a bit of a challenge.
My daughter loves the little balls, in fact thats about all she plays with. The music is cute for about the first five minutes and now everytime I hear it I almost trip over my own two feet running to shut the darn thing off. It's a toss-up. What kid doesn't like balls right.
Also, the buttons don't seem to really connect to what the sounds are. My son loves putting the balls in it and on the ferris wheel. This toy is super obnoxious. The buttons just spit out very random things no matter what the setting is. The sounds on it are very tinny and mechanical and really grate on your nerves after a very short while (and I'm pretty tolerant of noisy toys). There is no volume switch. This was rather annoying as it is hard for a child to learn concepts and cause and effect when there appears no rythme or reason for what it is saying. I have been very disappointed by most v-tech toys.
I called the 800 number and they will fix it if I send them $14 (plus the shipping cost I have to pay to ship it to them) - not worth it. None of the features on this toy worked. After searching this product online, seems like a lot of people have had the same issues. I emailed VTech, they directed me to take out the batteries, move the on/off switch back and forth 40 times. After that, everything worked except the ferris wheel, it will not turn. It was obviously poorly manufactured and I am not sinking any additional money into this toy. Very surprised that VTech would not stand behind this product.
However, He is turning 3 this month and he is still obsessed with this toy. Our son received this for his first Christmas from Grandma. He was a little under a year old so he didnt use it THAT much at first. I try to do rotation with our toys, 1 month up, 1 month out and if he finds this toy while its out of rotation he is all over it, and it ends up just spending most of the time out. HUGE Thumbs up here.
We bought this for our granddaughter's first birthday. She really enjoys it. I think it will take a few months longer for her to figure out the intricacies of operating the ferris wheel, but until then she just drops the balls into the circular slide and enjoys watching them go.
